Add a floating WhatsApp or contact button to your link-in-bio page: menu or direct link, when it appears, styles, and when it helps more than it distracts.

A floating contact button is a small button that stays in a bottom corner of your link-in-bio page, so visitors can reach you from anywhere on it without scrolling back to the top. On QKAP you switch it on in Dashboard → Appearance → Floating button, choose whether it opens a menu of your Social & contact links or one link straight away (such as a WhatsApp chat), and style it with a live preview. It's available on every plan, including Free, and stays off until you turn it on.

Key takeaways

  • A floating button suits sellers, coaches and service creators whose followers need to message or call them. On content-first pages it can pull taps away from your products.
  • Menu shows the contact links you pick; One link opens a single chat or link straight away.
  • You can add your QKAP inbox's message button as the first item in the menu.
  • Choose when it appears (right away, after 3 seconds or after some scrolling), and whether it shows on all devices or only phones and tablets.
  • Taps on the floating button aren't counted separately in QKAP analytics, so judge it by the enquiries it brings.

What a floating contact button is

A floating button (sometimes called a sticky contact button or a floating action button) is fixed to the screen rather than to the page. When a visitor scrolls through your posts, it stays in the same corner. Tapping it either opens a small menu of options or goes straight to one destination.

On QKAP the button is built from your Social & contact links, the WhatsApp, email, phone, Instagram and other entries you add under Profile → Social & contact. It only ever opens web links, email, phone calls and WhatsApp chats. It isn't a live chat widget: conversations happen in the app the link opens.

Who benefits from a floating button (and who should skip it)

A floating button earns its spot when contacting you is the main thing visitors come to do:

  • Small sellers who take orders or answer size and stock questions on WhatsApp.
  • Coaches, tutors and consultants who want a quick "message me before booking" route.
  • Local services like bakers, makeup artists and photographers, where a phone call often closes the deal.
  • Creators who get brand enquiries and want a visible "Work with me" option on every page.

It's less useful, and sometimes harmful, when your page exists to send people to products or posts. An affiliate creator whose followers come for "#23 from my reel" mostly wants taps on post tiles, not a chat. A pulsing button in the corner competes with that. Our list of link-in-bio call-to-action examples is a good reminder that one clear primary action usually beats several loud ones.

If you're unsure, try it for two weeks with a calm style (no animation, appearing after some scrolling) and compare how many messages you get.

Under What it does you pick one of two modes:

  • Menu: "Shows your links to pick from." Tapping the button opens a list of the Social & contact entries you choose (all of them by default), in your profile's order. It closes when the visitor taps outside it.
  • One link: "Opens a chat or link straight away." Tapping the button opens one entry directly, for example your WhatsApp chat with a pre-filled message.

A simple rule: if most enquiries arrive one way, use One link. If different people need different routes (WhatsApp for orders, email for brands, a phone call for urgent bookings), use Menu. The full setup for WhatsApp ordering is in our guide to taking WhatsApp orders from Instagram.

Adding your inbox's message button to the menu

If you use QKAP's inbox, your message button (with text such as Message me, Partnerships or Collabs) can be the first item in the floating menu. Turn on In your floating button menu in your inbox settings. It only shows when the floating button is set to Menu.

Followers who tap it open your message form. They need a free QKAP account to send a message, which keeps spam down, and you never have to show a phone number or email address to receive enquiries.

Style options

Under Look and Colours you can set:

  • Corner: bottom right or bottom left. For right-to-left languages such as Arabic, the corner is mirrored along with the rest of the page.
  • Size: S, M or L.
  • Shape: Circle, Rounded, or With label. The labelled (pill) shape shows text of up to 24 characters next to the icon. Left empty, a Menu button reads "Contact me" and a One link button uses that link's own button text.
  • Icon: automatic (the platform's own icon for One link, a chat bubble for Menu), your profile photo, one of 16 simple icons, or a platform's brand icon.
  • Colour: your page's accent colour, the link's own brand colour such as WhatsApp green (One link only), or a custom colour. Icon colour can stay on automatic, which picks black or white, whichever reads best.
  • Shadow: lifts the button off the page.

Match the button to your page rather than fighting it. Our link-in-bio page design tips cover colour and contrast in more detail, and themes set the accent the button uses by default.

When it appears, and how much it moves

You can show the button right away, after 3 seconds, or after some scrolling, meaning once the visitor has scrolled a quarter of the page. A page too short to scroll shows it straight away.

For Catch the eye, choose None, Pulse (a soft ring ripples out three times) or Bounce (the button hops once). Pulse is the default, so switch to None if your page has a calm look. Visitors who've set their phone to reduce motion don't see the animation either way.

A short delay often works well. Someone who has scrolled a quarter of your page is interested, and the button appears just as they might want to ask something.

Phones only or everywhere

Under Motion and visibility → Show on, pick All devices or Phones and tablets. On wide computer screens QKAP shows your page in a wider layout with more room for your links, so many creators keep the button for phones, where visitors from Instagram usually arrive. Our guide to designing your link in bio for desktop visitors covers the wide layout.

If your profile header is crowded with icons, turn on Show these links only in the floating button. The links the button opens disappear from the header and live in the button instead. Links the button doesn't use stay where they were.

If the button only shows on phones and tablets, your header keeps those links on computers, so nobody loses a way to reach you. Your phone preview in the dashboard shows the result before you save.

Setting it up, step by step

  1. Add your contact links in Profile → Social & contact (up to 15 entries). For WhatsApp, include your country code and an optional pre-filled message.
  2. Open Appearance → Floating button and turn on Show a floating button.
  3. Choose Menu or One link, then pick the links it uses.
  4. Set the corner, size, shape, label, colours and shadow.
  5. Choose when it appears, the attention effect and which devices show it.
  6. Check the live preview, save, and test on your own phone through Instagram's in-app browser.

Sellers who'd rather talk than type can make the phone entry the one link. Our guide to call-to-order buttons for small sellers covers when that works.

Floating button vs Instagram's Contact button vs a contact form

A floating button isn't the only way to be reachable. Each option suits a different visitor:

OptionWhere it livesWhat the visitor seesBest for
Instagram's Contact buttonNear the top of a professional account's profileDirections, phone number and email, visible to anyone who taps it, per Instagram's Help Center (October 2026)Local businesses happy to show contact details publicly
A contact formLinktree offers a Contact Form link app, and Beacons lists a contact form with its media kit (check each pricing page for plans)A form asking for their name, email and a messageCreators who prefer to reply by email
QKAP floating button (our product)A bottom corner of every page of yoursYour chosen Social & contact links, or one chat straight awaySellers and service creators who chat on WhatsApp or by phone
QKAP inbox message button (our product)Under your bio, or first in the floating menuA message form; replies arrive in their QKAP accountBrand enquiries without sharing a phone number

QKAP is our product, so we've stuck to what each option does rather than ranking them. For brand enquiries specifically, our comparison of email, contact forms and an inbox goes further.

Start small: one link, a clear label and a short delay. If your messages go up and your product taps don't drop, keep it.

Frequently asked questions

Can the button open WhatsApp with a message ready?

Yes. Set the button to One link and choose a WhatsApp entry that has a pre-filled message, written in Social & contact (up to 300 characters). The visitor's WhatsApp opens with your text already typed, and they tap send. Our guide to the WhatsApp button with a pre-filled message covers number formats and message ideas.

Will it cover my content?

It sits in a corner and moves up to clear a bottom announcement bar and the phone's own home-bar area. On small screens any floating element can overlap part of a post, so use size S or M and check your page on a phone. The menu closes when the visitor taps outside it.

Are taps on the floating button counted?

Not separately. The button opens your links directly, so QKAP analytics doesn't list its taps. If you need numbers, count the chats it brings in, or use WhatsApp items inside posts, whose taps are counted.

Is the floating button free?

Yes. It's included on every plan, including Free. See the pricing page for what Premium adds elsewhere.

Can I have more than one floating button?

Each page has one floating button. If you run several pages, each page has its own Appearance settings, so each can have its own button.
